Conan the Barbarian - A quick review SPOILER WARNING

SPOILER WARNING!

It was OK. There were some really great things about it, but as a whole it seemed a little two dimensional as the characterization was uneven. It's pretty graphic in the ways one would expect from an R rated movie, BUT with almost no bad language to speak of. :-) It's not an accurate take on the character, but the lead actor looks the part and seems pretty barbaric. There is skin, a bit of sexuality and gallons of blood. The action is almost non-stop but I think more dialogue might have made the fights more impactful. I also think the violence became so acceptable by movies end that I began to not care. The transitions from shot to shot are sometimes jarring leaving the viewer with an unclear perception of where the characters ARE and where they are GOING. Something must have been amiss with the storyboards or maybe the edit was the problem. Rachel Nichols was excellent. All in all a B-.

I'm afraid I couldn't be as kind as you, Lanny. I absolutely hated it.

I didn't expect it to fare well under your the gaze of your knowledgeable eyes. My considerably lighter exposure to Howard no doubt left me less terrorized by the goofiness. It was just so danged 2 dimensional!
