Is diversity so great, really?

The loss of shared experience is negatively impacting our world. When I grew up, There were 3 channels and PBS. Each day at school or work, it was very likely that you watched the same shows as your peers. Our minds are driven in a million directions now and the less we have in common, the more we grow to hate one another. We define ourselves by our tastes which we hold up as moral absolutes. Read a discussion on popular music online, for example, people will shred each other verbally over artist or genre preference. The collective damage of this type of misdirected malice is taking a heavy toll on us all.
